David's work as a designer is widely admired, not least by Planners who recognise the quality of his designs. He is a consummate professional architect at the top of his game. If this makes him sound like a prima-donna the reverse is the case. He is quiet and unassuming, always willing and keen to work with clients to understand their objectives and translate them into reality.

Whilst it may be possible to discern some sort of overall pattern in his design output, David is highly adaptable and has a great feel for traditional vernacular building styles as well as being a thoroughly contemporary architect. However, as with any really good designer the superficialities of style are, to him, secondary to getting the fundamental design right. He creates buildings that flow well and are open, warm and well proportioned. He handles space with great skill even in conversion work. At the same time his work is practical and economical.

For the construction phase of a building project David's natural efficiency comes into its own. Building projects are often inherently complex but David has a great ability to keep on top of them.

David Johnson graduated in architecture from Liverpool University in 1997 and qualified as an architect while working at GLM in 2001. He became a director of GLM in 2006.
