Centotre, Edinburgh's trendiest cafe-bar
GLM converted this A Listed former banking hall on Edinburgh’s George Street into the City’s most fashionable café bar. In a project taking just ten weeks on site the magnificent banking hall, with 26ft high ceilings and bordered by Corinthian columns, was transformed into Centotre, a stylish Italian Café Bar, for Victor and Carina Contini.
Proving that GLM will go to extraordinary lengths to achieve a Client’s goals, Ian met Victor and Carina in Milan to research the style and business concept. (What a chore!)
Whilst the site phase was swift, all the usual planning and technical problems associated with commercial kitchens in highly listed buildings were encountered during the design phase. However, as usual, GLM were up to the task and successfully negotiated consent to ventilate the basement kitchen at roof level using an external flue.
Now in its 9th month of trading, Centotre is proving a very popular meeting place for eating and drinking Italy’s finest for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything else in between.
GLM and Centotre are featured in the November 2004 edition of Homes and Interiors Scotland magazine.
