Fairnilee House

Fairnilee, a great Edwardian country house in the borders of Scotland, suffered a major fire during the Christmas holiday 2004. Although it destroyed part of the roof the Fire Brigade were able to control the fire with a misting technique that produced remarkably little water damage. Thanks to this and prompt action by the Managing Agents Seed and Co in getting temporary protection in place, the house was able to remain in occupation while the roof and the affected rooms were reinstated. This was later replaced with a temporary roof that enabled work to proceed unimpeded by the weather. GLM were commissioned to look after this project, drawing up detailed specifications and drawings, competitively tendering the work, liaising with the Loss Adjusters and monitoring the cost, quality and progress of the work. It was not an easy project as many trades were involved and there were expensive finishes to reinstate. A critical delay in the supply of Travertine marble did not help. However the house is now back as it was.
