Grey Peel - On the Home Straight
Maurice & Catherine Hardy-Bishop can now see light at the end of the tunnel. Having laid the foundations for the new west wing back in August 2002, 2005 should be the year they can finally move into their 'Steading Style' dream home. Opting to manage the construction process themselves and even lend a hand where they could, this project has turned out to be a real labour of love for the Hardy-Bishops. Labour was at times hard to come by but Catherine put these delays to good use, scouring the country for architectural salvage yards she has managed to pick up some tremendous stone fireplaces, old oak doors and marble vanity tops for the bathrooms. Despite their new home being 1100sq ft they may have problems finding a home for it all.
The project has been an education for GLM, as this was our first time of using Beco Wallform, a polystyrene 'Lego Style' building block system. We have been so impressed with the ease and quality of construction that we are proposing to use the same system for another extension project later on this year. The insulation properties of this system far exceed the current and proposed regulations regarding heat loss from buildings. Could this be a replacement for the tradiational cavity brick construction of the past 50 years? www.becowallform.co.uk
