Cottage Extension

Work is now complete at The Cottage, Morridgehall, Maxton.

The owners of this Victorian cottage set in idyllic Scottish Borders countryside approached GLM with a view to converting it into a comfortable family house. They had some fairly evolved design ideas but had decided from the outset that they would not constrain GLM's design ability and imagination. As the design took shape architect David Johnson kept the client up to date on an almost daily basis, with sketch ideas and thoughts by email. This minimised the number of face to face meetings that were required and considerably shortened the initial design process. The result is a 'Contemporary Vernacular' style of building that celebrates the traditional domestic building forms and materials of the area and re-interprets them in a contemporary and imaginative form. Open plan living spaces, a double height gallery and entrance hall, a generous master bedroom suite, comfortable secondary bedrooms and bathrooms, windows and doors that relate directly to the internal function of the space and external view all come together to create a well appointed family home.
